His teaching
Forrest teaches meditation as a body-first process rather than a struggle with the mind. Effortful thinking, the Linguistic Mind in his terms, stirs the sympathetic nervous system; a body settled into deep relaxation, the Low-Idle-State, lets the experiences the yogis describe unfold.
He joins the yogic lineage with modern science, from heart-rate variability and polyvagal theory to the deep structures of the brain, and reads the old texts, the Bhagavad Gita, Patanjali and the Mahabharata, in that light. He teaches toward three aims: health and relaxation, creativity and insight, and liberation (moksha).
Background
Forrest grew up in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and came to meditation as a teenager. He was initiated into Kriya Yoga through Self-Realization Fellowship and lived as an SRF monastic for seven years, then left the ashram for the householder path.
He was later initiated into the Panchanon Bhattacharya householder lineage of Kriya Yoga by Ashok Kumar Singh, who gave him permission to teach it in 2017. Along the way he studied neuro-linguistic programming, hypnosis, psychology, martial systems, linguistics, the breath and the nervous system.
His videos
The channel teaches in bite-size trainings: guided practices to do along with him, single techniques explained, and answers to students’ questions. A new video arrives most weeks, and this library adds each one.
His longer courses are on his website, Meditative Mellows, and the Trainings page lists them. On Patreon he holds satsangs for the Yogic Family community, one-on-one guidance in the Inner Sangha, and two-hour sessions of personal transmission in the Inner Temple. He also teaches in person.
